More about the procedure
Description
Safe, non-invasive Nd:YAG laser therapy for resistant fungal nail infections.
Onychomycosis (fungal nail infection) is a common and difficult-to-treat condition that results in thickened, yellowed, and brittle nails. LUÑA Ray offers an innovative solution using a Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm), which penetrates deep into the tissue and destroys the fungus by increasing the temperature in the area of infection.
Advantages of laser treatment
Safe and non-invasive
No need for systemic antifungals
No pain and no recovery period
Suitable for patients with hepatic contraindications to medications
High degree of effectiveness with a combined approach (laser + local remedies)
How does laser therapy work?
Nd:YAG laser light is absorbed by the pigments and structures in the nail plate and matrix, raising the local temperature to a level at which the fungus cannot survive. This is done without damage to the surrounding tissues, without the need for systemic medications, and with minimal discomfort.
How does the procedure work?
- Nails are cleaned and disinfected.
- The laser is applied to each affected nail for about 2–3 minutes.
- 2–3 passes are performed with cooling in between.
- The overall procedure takes about 15–20 minutes.
How many procedures are needed?
Typically, 3–4 treatments are recommended at 2–4 week intervals.
Complete restoration of the nail plate takes time – the new, healthy nail grows slowly (6–12 months).
Recommendations and combinations:
- Combining with topical antifungal agents (varnishes, creams) increases effectiveness.
- Maintain good foot and shoe hygiene.
- Shoes can be treated with UV or antiseptic sprays.
- Use separate tools for affected nails.
Contraindications:
- Active skin infections around the nail
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding (precaution)
- Tendency to thermal reactions or photosensitivity
Laser treatment of onychomycosis with LUÑA Ray is a modern and effective method that offers a real alternative to drug therapy - especially in resistant cases or patients with contraindications.
