Microneedling

Microneedling with Dermapen and radiofrequency microneedling

Two technologies for skin renewal, tightening and remodeling

Microneedling is a minimally invasive method in which fine needles create controlled microchannels in the skin. They activate natural repair processes and stimulate the synthesis of new collagen and elastin.

В Stoimenov Dermatology We offer two different solutions:

  • classic mechanical microneedling with Dermapen;
  • vacuum-assisted radiofrequency microneedling with LUNA Wave.

The two therapies share a common principle, but work at different depths and with different intensities. The choice is made after a dermatological examination and assessment of the specific problem, and not according to a pre-selected procedure.

Microneedling with Dermapen

Controlled mechanical stimulation without heat energy

Dermapen uses vertically moving fine needles, the depth and speed of which are adjusted according to the treated area and the condition of the skin. The created microchannels activate the natural healing process without delivering radiofrequency or laser energy to the tissues.

It is suitable for:

  • fine lines and early signs of aging;
  • enlarged pores;
  • uneven or rough texture;
  • loss of freshness and elasticity;
  • stretch marks and certain scars on the body;
  • skin in need of general renewal.

When indicated, a sterile professional product, selected according to the skin's needs, can be used during the procedure. The created microchannels help it penetrate the treated area.

Radiofrequency microneedling

Microneedling and RF energy for deep collagen remodeling

In radiofrequency microneedling, microneedles penetrate to a predetermined depth and deliver controlled radiofrequency energy into the dermis. The combination of mechanical and thermal stimulation activates the formation of new collagen and elastin and promotes gradual tissue tightening and remodeling.

The method is mainly used for skin sagging, wrinkles, enlarged pores, uneven relief and atrophic scars, including acne scars. Scientific reviews consider radiofrequency microneedling as an effective minimally invasive option for skin rejuvenation and scar treatment.

It is suitable for:

  • sagging skin on the face and neck;
  • loss of density and elasticity;
  • fine and more pronounced wrinkles;
  • atrophic scars after acne;
  • enlarged pores;
  • uneven skin texture;
  • stretch marks and sagging of certain areas of the body;
  • need for more intense collagen stimulation.

LUNA Wave vacuum-assisted technology

At Stoimenov Dermatology, we work with a radiofrequency system where a vacuum gently lifts and stabilizes the skin before the needles penetrate. This promotes even tissue contact, precise depth targeting, and controlled delivery of RF energy.

Dermapen or radiofrequency microneedling?

Simply put, Dermapen is the procedure of choice for mild, cosmetic concerns or for patients who desire minimally invasive procedures, while radiofrequency microneedling is recommended for patients with more pronounced laxity or scarring. For some patients, the best approach may involve alternating the two procedures or combining them with CO₂ laser, IPL, injectable therapies, or medical home care.

The choice starts with a diagnosis, not with a device

Before recommending a procedure, we assess the thickness and condition of the skin, the presence of scars, the degree of sagging, the phototype, and the expected recovery period.

If necessary, the dermatological examination can be supplemented with AI skin analysis with LUNA X. The system assists in the assessment of pores, wrinkles, texture, pigment and vascular changes, hydration levels and other indicators. The information obtained does not replace medical judgment, but helps in more precise development and monitoring of the therapeutic plan.

Recovery after the procedure

After Dermapen, temporary redness, sensitivity, and slight skin tightening are most commonly observed.

After radiofrequency microneedling, the reaction depends on the depth and energy delivered. Redness, slight swelling, sensitivity or fine punctate crusts are possible. You will receive individual instructions for cleansing, restorative care, avoidance of irritating products and strict photoprotection.

The procedures are not performed for every skin condition. Active infections, inflammatory processes, certain diseases, medications or medical devices may require postponement or selection of another method. This will be assessed during the consultation.

For active infections or severely inflamed acne, the procedure is usually not the first choice. The active process must be controlled first and then a plan can be made to address residual scarring and texture.
